Mixed media

Mixed Media Project
This was the first time I was introduced to this type of art. The picture on the top shows my first attempt at making a collage. The topic I chose was my "favorite holiday" so that means its supposed to represent Christmas and winter. I used the cool color blue because thats the color I think of when I hear winter and I added some reds and greens. I used tissue paper, Christmas wrapping paper, a little bit of blue paint and a gold bow. I had trouble with how you would use simple materials to create a piece of art so that it comes together as one idea. I still don't fully understand but I managed to try and create one. I honestly think it could've turned out better but it was my first time trying it.
For the actual project I chose to do a galaxy backround with a hidden dark face on the side. I used white, pink, and purple tissue paper to add texture and then I used acrylic paint to paint the galaxy part. At first I was just trying to figure out what I wanted. I didn't have an idea at the time but then I remembered in the videos that Mrs. Rossi showed us. In one of them a woman added a picture of herself and made it blend into the art piece. I got a picture of a random girl off the internet and cut out her face and glued it into the side of my painting. I used black and dark blue paint to blend it into the dark part. I gained skill with blending the paint together because the painted layer required a lot of different colors that had to be blended together including dark blue, red violet, dark purple and light purple. I really enjoyed adding the colors and blending them together. Ive always thought of making a galaxy painting but never got a chance to and I finally got the chance to. I'm satisfied with this project and I wouldn't have done anything differently. I know there aren't a lot of layers but I like how it came out and I think it looks mysterious.
